Basically, it had the top chopped off. Lopped and wreaked. As a result it’s health plummeted, it got infested with Termites, becoming hollow and was on the way out.
Most of the growth seen above is stress growth or epicormic shoots.
When big trees in close proximity to your house look dangerous because of their large size, don’t cut the top off them to ‘make them safe’.
Instead of making the tree safer, it becomes more of danger;
- more likely to lose branches or large limbs
- more likely to collapse or fall over
- dramatically reduced lifespan
- a more expensive, 2-stage removal.
Leave it alone or cut it down!
